Levi A. Carr
I come from Mount Horeb, WI where I enjoyed watching and wondering at large cumulonimbus that rolled of the Great Plains. Here at Colorado State, I get to study and develop tools to study large clouds of a different variety: warm marine stratocumulus. Warm marine stratocumulus clouds tend to form and persevere as large sheets spanning thousands of kilometers and can be organized in a variety of ways. As such, they are challenging to study using direct measurement but have a profound impact on the Earth’s radiation budget and climatology. In particular, I am investigating ways to discern the microphysical characteristics of these clouds from space using novel retrieval techniques.
Previously, I have studied the formation and evolution of solar-mass contact binary stars, a prevalent but often unnoticed population of stars in our night sky. I enjoy watching and playing a variety of sports, baking bread, cooking with my wife, and spending time outside fishing, camping, or whatever!
